CIC Energy is committed to maximizing local employment opportunities in Botswana
Local sourcing of products and services will also be a key priority
The Mmamabula Energy Project (MEP) will be the largest-ever private sector investment in Botswana. It has the potential to reshape the country's economy, as once built, it is expected to be the single largest contributor to the country's GDP outside of the diamond industry.
The positive impact the MEP will have on the local community includes employment and training opportunities, as well as the sourcing of local goods and services. The MEP is committed to enhancing employment opportunities for the people of Botswana. During construction a significant number of Botswana nationals are expected to be employed by the project. In time, 100% of the anticipated permanent workforce of 1,100 people operating the MEP will be from Botswana.
CIC Energy continues to proactively get involved with the local communities. Since 2005, the Company has conducted close to 300 Community Liaison Committee meetings with different committees representing the neighbouring villages. The Community Liaison Committees meet regularly with CIC Energy to receive project updates and to convey feedback from the communities on matters relating to the MEP.
CIC Energy, together with independent environmental consultants has conducted a comprehensive Environmental, Social and Health Impact Assessment (ESHIA) of the MEP. The process included extensive stakeholder consultation with over 2,000 people directly involved in local communities, government and other areas.
